Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and Yannick Bright earn TOTM honors after a wild comeback win in Cincinnati.

Wednesday night in Cincinnati turned into one of those chaotic MLS games that felt completely out of control by the hour mark — and somehow Lionel Messi still managed to look calm in the middle of it. Inter Miami went down twice, looked vulnerable defensively for long stretches, then absolutely detonated late with three goals in the final 11 minutes to stun FC Cincinnati 5-3 at TQL Stadium.

This wasn’t one of those polished, clinical Miami performances where they slowly squeeze the life out of a match. This thing was open, frantic, emotional, and honestly borderline ridiculous at times. Cincinnati kept punching holes in Miami’s back line, Evander looked dangerous every time he touched the ball, and the crowd smelled blood after the home side reclaimed the lead in the second half.

Then Messi happened again.

The Argentine finished with two goals, an assist, and the sequence that forced the late own goal which killed the match off completely. By the end of the night, Inter Miami had flipped a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 victory in just ten minutes, leaving Cincinnati shell-shocked and extending Miami’s unbeaten run on the road.

🌟 TOTM Honoree #1: Lionel Messi
7th Team of the Matchday selection of the 2026 season

At this point, MLS defenses know exactly what’s coming and it still doesn’t matter. Messi completely controlled the closing stages once Miami fell behind 3-2. Every dangerous attack flowed through him, every Cincinnati mistake got punished immediately, and the pressure never stopped building once he started finding pockets of space around the box.

The second goal was classic Messi — patient, simple, ruthless. The assist to Silvetti came from quick recognition before Cincinnati could reset defensively. Even the own goal started with Messi creating another dangerous sequence that forced panic inside the six-yard area.

🌟 TOTM Honoree #2: Yannick Bright
First Team of the Matchday selection of the 2026 campaign

Bright’s performance may get overshadowed because eight goals were flying in from everywhere, but Miami probably doesn’t survive this game without him stabilizing the midfield. He quietly cleaned up transitions, kept possession moving, and handled a huge defensive workload while the game stretched into total chaos.

In a match where both teams were attacking in waves, Bright still completed 90% of his passes and helped Miami regain control late.

Messi now has seven Team of the Matchday selections through 13 matchdays. That means he’s been honored in more than half of Miami’s league schedule so far.

Inter Miami’s attack is also starting to look genuinely dangerous on a weekly basis.

📍 22 points from 12 matches
🛣️ 7-match unbeaten run away from home
🔥 10 goals scored across their last 3 MLS games
📈 13 points from 18 available since Guillermo Hoyos took over on April 18

The bigger concern for the rest of MLS right now is timing. Miami suddenly look confident again, the attack is clicking, and Messi is entering one of those stretches where every match starts feeling inevitable. Cincinnati had control of this game twice on Wednesday night and still walked away conceding five. That says everything about how quickly Inter Miami can bury teams once momentum flips.
