Bam Adebayo’s Historic 83-Point Night Draws Praise From NBA Legends

The magic of sports was on full display on what seemed like a random Tuesday night in March against the Washington Wizards, as records were shattered in one of the most unimaginable ways possible.

Breaking Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point game — widely considered the greatest modern-era single-game scoring performance — would be an incredible feat for any player.

But for Bam Adebayo, a defensive-minded star known more for his versatility, playmaking, and leadership than explosive scoring, dropping 83 points in a single game felt like a true once-in-a-lifetime sports moment.

Naturally, the basketball world took notice.

“Man, it’s a lot of them,” Adebayo said during an interview on ESPN’s NBA Countdown when asked about the messages he’s received since the historic performance. “I mean, LeBron [James], Joel [Embiid], all my teammates from the past, [Dwyane] Wade, [Udonis Haslem], Michael Jordan.”

Yes — that Michael Jordan.

The ESPN crew reacted with surprise after Adebayo mentioned the six-time NBA champion, which was understandable. Jordan is not known for regularly reaching out to current players and typically keeps his distance from the modern NBA spotlight.

Naturally, the panel had to ask the obvious follow-up:

What did Michael Jordan say?
