3 More Moves the Dolphins Should Make After Day 3 of Free Agency

Miami has begun reshaping its roster, but several key needs remain as the offseason continues.

The Miami Dolphins have taken the first steps toward reshaping their roster during the opening days of NFL free agency. By signing quarterback Malik Willis and adding depth pieces across several positions, Miami’s front office has begun addressing some of the team’s biggest needs.

However, the Dolphins’ work is far from finished.

With the NFL Draft still ahead and several veteran free agents remaining on the market, Miami still has opportunities to strengthen the roster before training camp begins. Here are three moves the Dolphins could make next as the offseason continues.

1. Add Another Starting-Caliber Offensive Lineman

If there is one area Miami cannot afford to ignore, it is the offensive line.

The Dolphins have struggled with offensive line consistency in recent seasons, often dealing with injuries and inconsistent protection for their quarterbacks. With Malik Willis expected to take over under center, improving pass protection should be a top priority.

Willis’ mobility can help extend plays, but relying on a scrambling quarterback is not a long-term solution. Miami needs a reliable offensive line that can protect the quarterback and create running lanes.

Signing another experienced lineman or targeting a top offensive line prospect in the draft would help stabilize the offense and give Willis a better chance to succeed.

2. Strengthen the Pass Rush

Miami’s defense has shown flashes of dominance in recent seasons, but generating consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks remains an area where the team could improve.

Adding another edge rusher would give the Dolphins more flexibility on defense and reduce the pressure on existing pass rushers to carry the load every game.

Modern NFL defenses thrive when they can rotate multiple pass rushers and maintain fresh legs throughout the game. Bringing in another experienced edge defender would allow Miami to create more disruptive defensive packages.

The free agent market still includes several veteran pass rushers who could provide immediate impact.

3. Add a Veteran Defensive Back

The Dolphins’ secondary has undergone several changes during the offseason, making depth and experience critical.

Adding a veteran defensive back could help stabilize the unit and provide leadership for younger players entering larger roles.

In today’s pass-heavy NFL, teams often need five or six defensive backs capable of playing meaningful snaps. Injuries and matchup situations frequently force teams to rely on their depth in the secondary.

Signing a veteran cornerback or safety would give Miami valuable insurance and strengthen the overall defensive structure.

The Draft Will Shape the Next Phase

While free agency has provided the Dolphins with opportunities to add experienced players, the NFL Draft will likely play the most important role in shaping the roster.

Miami’s front office has historically relied on the draft to build long-term depth, and this year should be no different.

With several areas still needing improvement, the Dolphins may look to target offensive line help, defensive playmakers, or additional offensive weapons in the early rounds.

A Patient Approach Could Pay Off

Rather than chasing headline signings, the Dolphins appear to be taking a more measured approach to roster building this offseason.

The strategy focuses on improving depth, maintaining salary cap flexibility, and giving younger players opportunities to develop.

If Miami can successfully address its remaining needs over the coming weeks, the Dolphins could quietly assemble a roster capable of surprising opponents during the upcoming season.

For now, the first few days of free agency represent just the beginning of what could be a very important offseason for the franchise.
